I am currently a freelance copywriter in Tampa and am quite amazed at the demand for my services. I think that there are several reasons for this.
First, the economy. Rather than committing resources to permanent hires at this time, it’s less risky and less costly to contract out the work as needed.
Second, Tampa doesn’t seem to have many larger agencies such as, say, Miami and even Orlando. That means that there are many smaller agencies who use freelancers to expand their resources on an as-needed basis.
I know of three creatives that I worked with at Bozell/Tampa back in 1990 when I first moved to Tampa who have been freelancing ever since.
Using freelancers also allows agencies to custom-build a creative team according to the particular strengths of the individuals and the needs of the project at hand.
Well, there goes my phone ringing again. Who needs some copy this time?
