Companies take aggressive defensive measures against what employees email, post, upload and tweet

by wordwrangler on August 20, 2009

Companies are worried about leaks of sensitive information through emails, text messages, blogs and social media.

As a result, 38 percent of companies now monitor employees’ outgoing email messages. Eight percent of companies have terminated an employee for information leaks via social media like Facebook or LinkedIn.

Compounding the problem, nearly half of companies reported that recent layoffs of IT staff have hindered their ability to safeguard their confidential, proprietary and sensitive data.
