For example, this photo of the premiere of New Moon in Westwood, California on November 16, 2009 is just one example of the up-to-date photos available for free.

As a PicApp member, you have legal access to the best and most current stock photo collections on the web. Images are provided by leading news and photo agencies who license images to PicApp.

These photo agencies include Getty Images, Corbis, Image Source, Jupiter Images, Newscom, Pacific Coast News and more.

PicApp works on all standard blog platforms, including Blogger, Vox, Movabletype, Typepad, WordPress.org (self-hosted), WordPress.com and more.

PicApp is so easy to use, too. You basically just search for your image and then paste the code you are given into your blog.
Here is a quick tutorial for embedding PicApp images into your blog.

If you use a WordPress self-hosted version, there is also a PicApp WordPress plug-in to further automate the process.

As if it couldn’t get even better, PicApp also helps to drive additional traffic to your blog with their SEO Booster, a mechanism embedded in each of their images that causes them to be indexed by search engines like Google.

Plus, PicApp has an RSS feed, so you can have them automatically alert you whenever new images matching your keywords come in.

Sign up for PicApp. It’s free.

According to Wikipedia, “a blog carnival is a type of blog event. It is similar to a magazine, in that it is dedicated to a particular topic, and is published on a regular schedule, often weekly or monthly.”

Blog carnivals can be powerful link building tools.

Basically, you submit your best blog posts to as many blog carnivals as you want. You can find thousands of blog carnivals at blogcarnival.com. You can even find blog carnivals that specialize in your niche.

Choose a blog carnival, fill out the submission form and be sure to include a summary of your post, then wait to see if your article is approved.

Once approved, you will get two backlinks – one to the article and one to your homepage. Now that’s linklove!

Follow up by thanking the blog carnival host and by participating in any conversations about your blog post.

Some blog carnivals require exclusive content, so you don’t want to submit the same blog post over and over again. Diversify by submitting many of your blog posts to various blog carnivals.

You can even start your own blog carnival if you wish.

See frequently asked questions about blog carnivals.

An excerpt:

In ten years, the web will become much more interactive, as proven by services such as Qik.com (where you can stream live photos and video) and Google Wave, which allows you to see what someone is typing. Also, crowdsourcing will replace the pundits (ahem) and lead to better overall information sharing.

Want more business for your small business? First, start a blog and post a new article at least twice a week related to your product or service. Add your blog URL to your email signature to help get the word out.

Then give your blog readers the option to subscribe via email in addition to subscribing via RSS.

This is because many visitors to your blog may not know what RSS is and thus refrain from subscribing this way. But email, they understand. And by getting them to subscribe via email, you will have regular readers for every blog update.

Read a case study here from John Wineman
